Hello, I am Zeli, and I am a cosmopolitan and a mansion hunter.
My story is not just an ordinary travel story, but one of self-realization and inspiration. Ever since I moved to the States, I began to discover things about myself and the world. I realized that things indeed are so simple.

Recently, I have paid a few visits to the grandiose and lovely gilded age mansions whose beauty and style made me think about the times where class and lifestyle of the rich were on a different level than that of today. For those who don’t know, Gilded Age is a period in the United States which lasted from the 1870s to about 1900. That was an era of rapid economic growth and creation of many great fortunes. I began imagining myself in that era and how life in New York must have been like for all these wealthy people. When I first visited Kykuit, The Rockefeller Estate was built in 1913; I was amazed by its architecture and the vastness of the land. The gardens, the house itself, and the sculptures surrounding the house were undeniably spectacular and worthy of admiration. I loved the fact that the house had been a home to 4 generations of the family and a beautiful place for upbringing and play.

It's interesting that this fountain is an exact replica of the #renaissance fountain in #boboligardens in #florence , Italy. Definitely worth a visit! #rockefellerestate #mansion #mansions #newyork #upstatenewyork #gildedage #gildedagemansions #neoclassical #classicalrevival ???? ????????
My next encounter with the gilded age mansions included Old Westbury Gardens; also a vast estate which consisted of enormous gardens and fields, and a beautiful English mansion. Again, I was struck by its beauty and the upkeep of the gardens to this day. Today, the entire property is in the hands of the National Trust, as it is The Rockefeller Estate, and they both remain supreme and luxurious mansions in the age we live in today.
At first, it was a bit hard for me to grasp the idea of being that rich and possessing a “never-ending land” and a mansion that was so ahead of that time. The more I thought about that era; I came to a conclusion that one who has a great vision and is persistent about it, will do great things.
We live in different times today. Sometimes we feel we cannot succeed with our ideas and that everything is already done. However, we also live in a world of possibilities, where one does not need a huge capital to make something out of nothing. The gentlemen that once owned these luxurious mansions that I was writing about did not have such possibilities, and of course, times were different. Nowadays, if one is passionate about their hobbies, and has the will to create something, and go through the road less traveled, one certainly has the opportunity to achieve great things.

These two visits inspired me to think outside the box and made me travel hungry. There is so much in this world to see, learn and experience. I would like to encourage everybody reading this post to go out, experience, and travel.
We now have the opportunity to be free and get to know ourselves better, and see for ourselves what the world has to offer and what we can do to make the world a better place. Although the previous sentence sounds a bit corny, I believe it is true, and I will certainly enjoy traveling and learning some history along the way, which in the end, will give me a better perspective and inspiration that everything is possible.
With that, my dear readers, I will conclude this blog post and recommend you to visit these two great mansions to inspire you to embark on your ventures.
